Aquarium Rock

There is a rock on the Monterey Recreational Trail just above the Monterey Bay Aquarium that has been skated since its placement. It’s pretty steep which adds a degree of difficulty, but this natural feeling spot is really rewarding to skate as it really differs from your typical skate spot. It’s a fairly smooth rock, hence it being considered a skate spot, that is skated in numerous ways. It can be used as a straight kicker that can be launched right over, however if you plan to do this, make sure you have a good spotter because it launches you right onto the sidewalk and into a fairly busy street. You can also skate it just like a bank or quarter pipe which is the more mellow option. This part of the Rec Trail isn’t usually very busy which is a plus. There’s a small and narrow waxed ledge directly across the trail from the rock that is fun to skate and adds a little more variety to the rock spot. Less than a quarter mile down the Rec Trail from the rock is the Reebok 8 Stair which is rather convenient. Warm up at the rock and then head over to Reebok and get a bangin trick down the stair set!
