Museum of Monterey Plaza

The Museum of Monterey Plaza is located at the bottom of Alvarado Street and is pretty much the heart of the Fisherman's Wharf and Historic Monterey. It’s a massive and open brick plaza surrounded by staircases, access ramps, and ledges that are mostly capped. There are a few spots on the ledges that you can sneak around and skate, but unfortunately, the majority of the ledges are skate proof. The best part of the Plaza is directly in front of the museum. It offers a tall, round manual pad that can be skated like a drop, and on either side of it are a two and a three stair. This infamous Monterey spot is another one that encourages creativity, but is also the perfect warm up spot with its mellow stairs and smooth ground (In front of the museum, not the bricks). The other nice thing about this spot is that it sits right next to the Rec Trail which is a gorgeous scenic path along the coast that takes you from Seaside to Pacific Grove. This trail will connect you to a lot of other spots throughout the Peninsula. Straight across the Rec Trail from the plaza is the Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can get the freshest, best tasting seafood in all of Monterey. You’re bound to see this spot at one point or another in your travels to Monterey, so check it out and sneak in a skate sesh before the Museum employees threaten to call the police!
