Coast Guard Pier

DSC_0962.JPG

The Coast Guard Pier, also located and can be accessed off the Monterey Rec Trail, is a cool tourist destination as well as a creativity encouraging skate spot. If you’re headed South on the Rec Trail, the Coast Guard Pier is pretty much just passed the Fisherman's Wharf on the right side. It’s a hard thing to miss and is quite the site to see as the stenches and sounds of harbor seals will fill your insides. The main skateable terrain at the Coast Guard Pier is on the sidewalk headed towards the water on the parks Northern end, right next to the grass field. There’s a flawless bench on a slight downhill that can be grinded, slapped, slid, and shredded. Furthering towards the water, there’s a rock sitting near some plants on the left side, that can be ollied onto, and then used as a kicker ramp to hop back onto the sidewalk. It’s unique and natural and will earn you some serious trendy points. Just down from the rock, there’s a long 6 stair that leads to the beach if you continue down it’s pathway, but it’s a great set to get some tricks down as it isn’t usually busy. Just make sure there isn’t too much sand on the landing because wind will often blow it up which doesn’t make for the best skateable ground. A new basketball court has just recently been built right above the pier which provides the opposite, however: super smooth ground.

RATING: 7/10
